Dhaka, Dec 26 (V7N) – Tarique Rahman, acting chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), returned to the country on Thursday after 17 years abroad. Tomorrow, Friday, following Jummah prayers, he is scheduled to visit the grave of BNP founder and former President Shaheed Ziaur Rahman to pay his respects, followed by a visit to the National Memorial to offer homage.

BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed confirmed these details during a press conference at the party chairman’s office in Gulshan on Wednesday. He also outlined Tarique Rahman’s program for Saturday, December 27.

On Saturday, Tarique Rahman will visit the grave of Shaheed Sharif Osman Bin Hadi, convener of Inkilab Mancha, and subsequently proceed to cast his vote. He will also visit the National Orthopedic Hospital and Rehabilitation Institute, commonly known as Pangu Hospital, to meet individuals injured during the July uprising.

It remains unclear whether Tarique Rahman will vote at the Election Commission or at a local polling station. Election Commission Secretary Akhtar Ahmed stated on Thursday evening, “We have no information at present regarding when and where Tarique Rahman will cast his vote.”

Shaheed Sharif Osman Bin Hadi, spokesperson of Inkilab Mancha, was killed in gunfire during a protest and has been buried beside the grave of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam at Dhaka University. Many injured during the mass uprising continue to receive treatment at the National Orthopedic Hospital and Rehabilitation Institute. Tarique Rahman’s visits to these sites are expected to underscore his commitment to honoring the party’s history and engaging with affected communities.
