Mymensingh, Dec 26 (V7N) – Six more individuals have been apprehended in connection with the gruesome mob killing and burning of Dipu Chandra Das in Valuka Upazila, Mymensingh. The arrests were made late Wednesday night in Kashar area of Habirbari Union by detectives from the DB Police, according to Abdullah Al Mamun, Additional Superintendent of Police (Finance and Administration) of Mymensingh.
With these arrests, the total number of individuals detained in relation to the case now stands at 18. The newly arrested suspects are identified as Takbir (22), Ruhul Amin (42), Nur Alam (33), Md. Shamim Mia (28), Selim Mia (22), and Md. Masum Khalasi (23). They are residents of different districts and were employed in Valuka.
Abdullah Al Mamun stated on Thursday that these six suspects had instigated workers and employees inside the factory on the day of the incident. They chanted slogans to create tension and pressured management to terminate Dipu from his job. Police are reviewing video footage of other suspects to continue ongoing arrest efforts.
On the night of December 18, a mob attacked Dipu Chandra Das at Pioneer Knitwears BD Limited factory in Jamirdia area of Valuka, alleging religious defamation. He was beaten to death in a public attack, and his body was set on fire near the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway. Police recovered his partially burnt body around 2:30 a.m.
Following the incident, Dipu’s younger brother, Apu Chandra Das, filed a case at Valuka Police Station against 150 unidentified individuals. Investigations and arrests are ongoing as authorities continue to seek justice in this high-profile case that has sparked national outrage.
