PANCHAGARH, Feb 9, (V7N) – NCP North Region Convener and Jamaat-led 11-party alliance candidate for Panchagarh-1 constituency Sarjis Alam on Monday vowed to resist any attempt at vote rigging, saying ballots would be protected “even at the cost of life and blood.”

Addressing an election campaign rally at the Jalashi area of Panchagarh Poura Town, Sarjis said, “If necessary, we are ready to sacrifice our lives, but we will not allow a single vote to be stolen. Those dreaming of election rigging should abandon such thoughts.”

Warning against election manipulation, he said any move towards “election engineering” would have serious consequences, recalling the fate of past election commissioners.

Sarjis Alam also outlined a series of development pledges for the constituency, including upgrading Tetulia and Atwari to municipalities within the next five years, establishing a 250-bed full-fledged hospital with ICU facilities, and setting up a medical college and a university in Panchagarh.

To address traffic congestion, he announced plans for constructing a bypass road outside the town, claiming approval and work could begin within the year. He further pledged to revive the Panchagarh Sugar Mill and promote industrial development to create employment opportunities.

Highlighting workers’ rights, Sarjis said labour votes had historically been bought for small sums and workers left “enslaved” for years. “We promise that the next generation of workers will not remain labourers. Their children will become engineers, doctors and barristers,” he said, adding that a Workers’ Welfare Trust would be formed to ensure education, healthcare and income security during unemployment.

He also expressed determination to free government and administrative institutions from political influence to improve public services.

The rally was chaired by District NCP Convener ABM Zulfikar Ali Nayon. Among others, District Jamaat Ameer Maulana Iqbal Hossain, Nayeb Ameer Maulana Mofiz Uddin, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis Panchagarh District President Mir Morshed Tuhin, Panchagarh City Jamaat Ameer Maulana Zainal Abedin and District Chhatra Shibir Secretary Mohibullah Muhib addressed the gathering.
