DHAKA, Feb 11 (V7N) A delegation of the Japanese election observation mission today met Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman at his office in the capital’s Bashundhara area.
The high-level delegation was led by Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh and head of the Japanese election observer mission, Masato Watanabe.
The meeting focused on the upcoming general election and the overall democratic process in Bangladesh.
According to sources present at the meeting, the primary objective of the Japanese election observation mission is to observe whether the general election is conducted in a free, fair and acceptable manner and to support the strengthening of democratic practices in the country.
Jamaat leaders expressed hope that the presence of Japanese election observers would further consolidate democracy in Bangladesh and contribute positively to ensuring a conducive environment for a credible election.
Both sides also voiced optimism that bilateral relations, development cooperation and mutual engagement between Bangladesh and Japan would be further strengthened in the days ahead.
Jamaat leader Dr Mosharraf Hossain Masud and foreign affairs adviser to the Jamaat Ameer Prof Dr Mahmudul Hasan were also present at the meeting.
