Feb 12 (V7N) - The National Citizen Party (NCP) has formally signed the July National Charter, completing the process of endorsement by all major stakeholders.

NCP Convener Nahid Islam and Member Secretary Akhter Hossain signed the charter at the State Guest House Jamuna in the presence of Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, according to the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing.

Earlier, the charter had been endorsed by most stakeholders of the Interim Government’s Consensus Commission, while the NCP initially refrained from signing, citing a lack of clarity on its implementation.

At the signing ceremony, Prof Yunus said the nation had expected the NCP to sign the charter and that its completion marked an important milestone, expressing gratitude to the party for joining the process. He also stressed the need for constant vigilance to ensure the document contributes to building a humane and inclusive Bangladesh.

Nahid Islam said the party’s elected lawmakers would take oath and pledged to uphold the trust placed in them by the people, adding that the NCP had always been proactive about implementing the charter despite signing it later.

Leaders and members of the NCP delegation, including Monira Sharmin, Sarwar Tushar, Javed Rasin and Zahirul Islam, were also present at the event alongside members of the National Consensus Commission.
