Dhaka, Apr 19 (V7N) — The government’s decision to increase fuel prices by Tk 15–20 per liter has drawn sharp criticism from opposition leaders, with concerns growing over its impact on ordinary citizens.
The Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources said the revised prices were set in line with the global market. However, critics argue that the move comes at a time when international fuel prices are reportedly easing.
Opposition reaction
Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer and Opposition Leader Dr. Shafiqur Rahman strongly condemned the decision in a Facebook post.
He said it was “very sad” that fuel prices were increased in Bangladesh under the pretext of adjustment, despite a decline in prices in the global market.
Concern over public suffering
Shafiqur Rahman warned that the hike would intensify the financial burden on citizens already struggling with rising living costs.
“People are already facing hardship in managing daily expenses. This increase in fuel prices will further worsen the situation,” he said, describing the move as an additional blow to the public.
The latest price adjustment is expected to have a ripple effect on transportation, goods movement, and overall cost of living across the country.
