Dhaka, May 22 (V7N)- Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Ghulam Parwar has strongly protested recent remarks made by Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed regarding the maximum punishment for rape cases.
In a statement issued on Friday (May 22), he said that describing the “public death penalty” as a medieval form of justice is an insult to the judicial principles of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), which he claimed are respected by the Muslim community.
He alleged that the Home Minister’s comment had hurt religious sentiments and reflected what he described as ideological inconsistency among policymakers who often speak about governing in line with the “Charter of Medina” and Sharia principles.
According to him, labeling Islamic Sharia-based punishment as “medieval” demonstrates disrespect toward Islamic law and has caused anger among the religious public. He further stated that the comment has created widespread resentment and accused the minister of showing contempt toward Sharia-based judicial concepts.
Jamaat-e-Islami also called on the Home Minister to withdraw the statement, urging restraint in making remarks on sensitive religious and legal issues.
