Mar 20 (V7N) – The ninth ICC Champions Trophy was held in Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates this month in a hybrid model, with the Indian cricket team, led by Rohit Sharma, emerging as the undefeated champions. As a reward for their exceptional performance, the team, including stars like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, received more than 27 crore rupees in prize money.
In addition to the tournament prize money, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a generous bonus for the team. BCCI President Roger Binny shared on Thursday (March 20) that the Indian cricketers would receive an additional 58 crore rupees, bringing the total reward amount to over 81 crore rupees in Bangladeshi taka. The bonus will be distributed not only to the players but also to the coaching staff, support staff, and the selection panel.
In his statement, Roger Binny emphasized that winning back-to-back ICC titles is a remarkable achievement, and the award acknowledges the team’s dedication and excellence on the world stage. He further noted that this financial recognition reflects the hard work of everyone involved, both on and off the field. This victory marks India's second ICC trophy this year, with the team also winning the Women’s Under-19 World Cup. These victories are a testament to the strong cricketing environment in the country.
It is also worth noting that India received $2.24 million from the ICC for winning the Champions Trophy. In addition, they earned $34,000 for each match they won during the group stage. However, the bonus from BCCI significantly surpasses these amounts, reflecting the team's dominance and achievements on the international cricket stage.
