Washington, May 14 (V7N) — The White House has announced a major relief for fans planning to attend the upcoming FIFA World Cup, as the Trump administration eased the controversial $15,000 visa bond policy imposed on citizens of certain countries.

Under the earlier rule, travelers from selected nations were required to deposit $15,000 as a guarantee of returning home after their US visas expired, a policy that had sparked criticism among football supporters and immigration advocates.

However, following requests from FIFA and pressure from fans, the United States Department of State decided to exempt ticket-holding spectators from the requirement.

Football fans from five countries, including Algeria, Ivory Coast, and Senegal, who have already purchased match tickets and registered for the FIFA Pass, will no longer need to pay the bond.

The US administration said the decision was taken to help organize “the best World Cup in history” and ensure a smoother experience for international visitors.
