At the Paris Olympics on Friday(2nd August), swimming was dominated by France's Léon Marchand and Australia's Kaylee McKeown.

Léon Marchand achieved an extraordinary milestone by securing his fourth gold medal of the Games, joining American legends Michael Phelps and Mark Spitz as the only male swimmers to win four individual titles in a single Olympics. Marchand set a new Olympic record in the 200 meters Individual Medley with a time of 1:54.06, breaking Phelps' previous mark of 1:54.23 from the 2008 Beijing Games. The French crowd's jubilation was so intense that it even impacted the schedule of track and field events at the Stade de France.

Duncan Scott from Britain claimed silver in the 200 meters Individual Medley, further extending his record as Britain’s most decorated Olympic swimmer to eight medals. Wang Shun of China earned the bronze in the same event.

On the final day of swimming, Kaylee McKeown of Australia made history by becoming the first woman to successfully defend both backstroke titles at the Olympics. She won gold in the 200 meters backstroke with an Olympic record time of 2:03.73, finishing ahead of American Regan Smith (silver) and Canada's Kylie Masse (bronze). This victory adds to McKeown's impressive record, making her Australia’s first Olympian to win four individual golds.

Veteran French swimmer Florent Manaudou also made his mark by winning bronze in the 50 freestyle, demonstrating that seasoned athletes remain competitive. Meanwhile, Cameron McEvoy of Australia secured his first Olympic gold in the 50 freestyle, with Ben Proud of Britain earning his first Olympic medal with a silver in the same event.
