The Olympic men's 10km marathon swimming event will proceed as scheduled on Friday at 7:30 a.m. (0530 GMT) in the Seine River, as recent tests confirmed that the water quality met the required standards, according to Paris Games organizers.

"Today's results were considered 'very good' according to the World Aquatics thresholds for E.coli and Enterococci on all four testing points across the marathon swimming course," stated the Games organizers and World Aquatics in a joint announcement on Thursday.

Water quality in the Seine has been a recurring concern during the Paris Games. The men's triathlon was previously postponed due to pollution issues, and several training sessions for swimming, triathlon, and marathon events were canceled as a result.

Sweden's Victor Johansson withdrew from the men's 10km event, citing concerns after hearing that triathletes had fallen ill following their swims in the Seine during the Olympic competitions, although he did not specify names.

The Games organizers emphasized that they had implemented a rigorous water quality monitoring system to ensure athlete safety.
