Nov 06, V7N- NASCAR has issued substantial fines and point deductions to drivers Bubba Wallace, Austin Dillon, and Ross Chastain, penalizing each with $100,000 fines and 50 driver points following conduct violations at Sunday’s Martinsville Speedway race. The penalties, announced on Tuesday, come as a result of actions NASCAR deemed detrimental to the sport and related to race manipulation, violations under sections 4.4.B&D of the NASCAR Rule Book.
In addition to penalizing the drivers, NASCAR also fined their respective teams—23XI Racing (Wallace), Richard Childress Racing (Dillon), and Trackhouse Racing (Chastain)—$100,000 each, while deducting 50 owner points. As part of the disciplinary actions, crew chiefs, spotters, and team executives will also be suspended from the 2024 season finale at Phoenix Raceway.
The affected teams quickly responded, stating their intention to appeal the penalties. Elton Sawyer, NASCAR’s senior vice president of competition, referenced a similar infraction involving the No. 41 car at the Roval race a few years prior. He explained that this current penalty was elevated to emphasize the shared responsibility of drivers, team owners, and officials in maintaining the sport’s integrity. “We felt like we wanted to ramp this one up,” Sawyer stated, stressing that upholding NASCAR’s standards requires collective accountability across teams and the organization.
