San Francisco, Jan 17 (V7N) — Artificial intelligence company OpenAI has announced plans to introduce advertisements on its AI-powered chatbot ChatGPT, marking a significant shift in its revenue strategy.
In a blog post published on Friday (January 16), OpenAI said the advertising feature will be launched on an experimental basis in the coming weeks. Initially, the ads will be displayed only in the United States and will be limited to free users and lower-tier subscription holders.
The company said that as ChatGPT’s popularity continues to grow, its operational and infrastructure costs have risen sharply. To manage these increasing expenses, OpenAI has decided to explore advertising as a new source of revenue.
OpenAI clarified that paid and premium subscribers will remain ad-free during the experimental phase.
If the pilot program proves successful, OpenAI may expand the advertising feature to other countries and a broader user base in the future.
While the move signals a new phase in the commercialization of artificial intelligence platforms, users and industry observers are now watching closely to see how advertisements may affect the overall ChatGPT user experience.
