RAJSHAHI, February 23, (V7N) — As the holy month of Ramadan progresses, Haleem has emerged as the most sought-after delicacy for Iftar among the residents of Rajshahi. The savory, slow-cooked stew has become a staple on the Iftar table, with thousands of fasting citizens flocking to both high-end restaurants and street-side stalls to secure their daily portion before the Maghrib call to prayer.

The culinary trend has gripped the city, with nearly every hotel and restaurant pivoting to prioritize Haleem production. Established eateries such as Chilis, Rahmania, New Bidyut, Memory Biryani House, Hotel Raj in Laxmipur, and Tripti Hotel have solidified their reputations for serving the dish, often seeing long queues as early as mid-afternoon.

Market prices this year reflect a wide range of options catering to various economic groups. Premium outlets like Chilis are retailing beef Haleem at 250 to 300 BDT for small bowls and 500 to 600 BDT for large servings. Meanwhile, Rahmania and New Bidyut offer large bowls between 300 and 500 BDT, providing a balance of quantity and traditional flavor that appeals to local food enthusiasts.

For the city’s middle and lower-income fasting population, street-side stalls near Zero Point have become the go-to destination. These vendors offer more accessible pricing, with large bowls available for 150 BDT and smaller portions for just 70 BDT. Despite the lower price point, these stalls maintain a steady flow of customers who swear by the authentic, spicy taste of roadside preparations.

The popularity of the dish is not confined to the heart of the metropolis; vendors on the outskirts of Rajshahi are also reporting brisk sales. Local traders noted that Haleem’s rich nutritional value—packed with lentils, wheat, and meat—makes it a perfect choice for replenishing energy after a long day of fasting, contributing to its status as a "must-have" item this season.

With the Iftar market buzzing daily, Haleem has officially joined the ranks of traditional favorites like Chola-Piaju and Beguni in Rajshahi’s Ramadan culture. As prices of other essentials like lemons and sugar see a slight uptick, the steady supply and varied pricing of Haleem ensure that it remains an inclusive treat for all residents across the division.
