MADHABPUR, February 23, (V7N) — Advocate Aminul Islam, a veteran Supreme Court lawyer and a prominent figure from Habiganj, has been appointed as the new Chief Prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT). The Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs issued the official notification regarding this high-profile appointment on Monday.

Hailing from Gopinathpur village in Madhabpur upazila, Aminul Islam carries a distinguished legal reputation built over decades of practice. He is a senior member of the BNP’s legal aid panel and serves as the central vice-chairman of the Nationalist Lawyers Forum. Notably, he spent years as a key member of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia’s legal defense team, earning him a reputation for professional resilience and a deep understanding of high-stakes litigation.

Reacting to the news, Advocate Aminul Islam described the role as a position of immense honor and national responsibility. "I will fulfill the duties entrusted to me with absolute devotion, remaining strictly committed to the law, the constitution, and the principles of justice," he stated. He further expressed his intention to make the tribunal’s activities more dynamic, transparent, and credible to the international community.

The appointment has sparked a wave of pride across his home district of Habiganj. His wife, Advocate Helena Begum, is also a well-known public figure, having served as the Vice Chairman of the Madhabpur Upazila Parishad.
