New York, Feb 18, (V7N) - Republican Congresswoman Claudia Tenney has introduced a bill to make President Donald Trump’s birthday, June 14, a federal holiday. The bill, named the Trump’s Birthday and Flag Day Holiday Establishment Act, would recognize both Trump’s birthday and Flag Day as a national observance.
Tenney, who represents New York, stated, “Just as George Washington’s Birthday is a federal holiday, this bill will add Trump’s Birthday to this list, acknowledging him as the founder of America’s Golden Age.”
Currently, Flag Day is a national observance but not a federal holiday, according to the Department of Veterans Affairs. Tenney believes that by designating June 14 as a federal holiday, it would permanently honor both President Trump’s contributions and the importance of the American flag.
Tenney’s proposal follows other efforts by Republican lawmakers to honor Trump. In January, Republican Rep. Anna Paulina Luna from Florida introduced a bill to carve Trump’s likeness into Mount Rushmore, alongside former President Abraham Lincoln. Luna argued that Trump’s leadership and dedication to America’s greatness warranted his place on the iconic monument.
Similarly, Rep. Andy Ogles from Tennessee introduced a resolution proposing a change to the Constitution that would allow a president to serve a third term. Ogles believes Trump’s leadership is necessary to continue the direction of the country. However, the resolution excludes former presidents who served consecutive terms.
Democratic members, including Rep. Dan Goldman and Rep. Steve Cohen, criticized these proposals. Goldman argued that Trump’s ideas were unconstitutional and authoritarian, while Cohen stated that two terms of Trump’s leadership were enough for the country.
