London, 06 July 2024- For the first time in the United Kingdom's history, a Muslim woman has been appointed as the Minister of Law and Justice. Shabana Mahmood has been given this responsibility in the new cabinet formed by Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

Shabana Mahmood, born in Birmingham, spent part of her childhood in Taif, Saudi Arabia. She made history in 2010 by becoming one of the first British Muslim women to enter the House of Commons, alongside Rushanara Ali and Yasmin Qureshi, both of Muslim and Asian descent.
