Washington, Sep 19 (V7N) – A joint statement released by US intelligence agencies has revealed that Iranian hackers accessed and sent information from former President Donald Trump's election campaign to individuals connected with President Joe Biden's campaign. The statement, issued by the FBI, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), claims the information was sent between late June and early July of this year.

Despite the breach, there is currently no evidence that any recipients from Biden's team responded to the information. The incident occurred shortly before President Biden dropped out of the 2024 presidential race. US officials had previously warned in August about Iranian efforts to disrupt US elections and undermine public confidence in the electoral process ahead of the upcoming November vote.

According to the FBI, the Iranian hackers have been attempting to share the stolen data with the media since June. Trump's campaign spokeswoman, Carolyn Levitt, condemned the breach, accusing Iran of interfering in the election to assist Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. Levitt stressed that Iranian officials are aware that Trump, if re-elected, would increase sanctions on Iran and combat terrorism in the Middle East. She further called on Biden and Harris to explain their knowledge of the emails sent by the hackers.

Former President Trump also responded to the allegations, claiming that Iran provided the hacked information to Biden's campaign because of Biden's alleged cooperation with Iran. Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Harris-Walz campaign, Morgan Finkelstein, stated that the campaign had cooperated with authorities after learning about the hack and had no knowledge of any materials being sent directly to their team. Finkelstein condemned any foreign attempts to influence the election.

Iran has firmly denied these allegations, with a spokesperson for Iran's Permanent Mission to the United Nations stating that Iran has no intention of interfering in the US election and rejecting the accusations outright.

This revelation marks the latest in a series of concerns about foreign interference in the US electoral process.
