Oct 31, V7N-Manchester United's interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy has expressed his desire to stay involved with the club in a restructured managerial role after a permanent replacement for Erik ten Hag is appointed. Van Nistelrooy, a former United star, stepped up from his assistant role following Ten Hag's departure and led United to a thrilling 5-2 League Cup victory over Leicester City on Wednesday in his first match in charge.

Having joined United at Ten Hag's request, Van Nistelrooy reflected on the "mixed feelings" of leading the team so soon after his fellow Dutchman’s exit. "The days leading up to this were with mixed feelings, sad to see Erik go," he said. He shared that he felt compelled to take on the role out of loyalty to the club, saying, "I'm here to help, I'm here to serve, I'm here to give my everything for the club in any capacity."

The match saw standout performances from captain Bruno Fernandes and Brazilian midfielder Casemiro, each scoring twice, with Casemiro thrilling fans with a stunning 25-yard strike. Van Nistelrooy praised Casemiro, who faced heavy criticism after a rough performance in a recent 3-0 loss to Liverpool. "I was delighted for Casemiro," he said, commending the midfielder for his dedication and setting an example through hard work in training.

Despite the emotional victory, Van Nistelrooy acknowledged the club's challenges, particularly with finding a permanent manager. Reports suggest United are close to finalizing an agreement with Sporting Lisbon's Ruben Amorim, who is expected to join after the upcoming international break. This timeline means Van Nistelrooy will continue in his interim role, including for Sunday’s Premier League clash against Chelsea at Old Trafford and the upcoming League Cup quarter-final against Tottenham Hotspur.

Fans showed their support for Van Nistelrooy, chanting his name after the final whistle, but the former striker remains focused on serving United in any capacity, knowing that the road to recovery for the club remains a long one.
