Nov 19 (V7N) - Italy secured a thrilling 2-1 victory over Iga Swiatek's Poland in the semi-finals of the Billie Jean King Cup on Monday in Malaga, reaching their second consecutive final. The win came after a dramatic doubles clash where Jasmine Paolini and veteran Sara Errani overcame Swiatek and Katarzyna Kawa 7-5, 7-5 to seal the deal for Italy, the four-time champions.

In the opening singles, Italy's Lucia Bronzetti defeated Poland's Magda Linette 6-4, 7-6 (7/3). Swiatek then levelled the tie by battling past Paolini 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 in a gruelling two-and-a-half-hour encounter.

In the decisive doubles rubber, the Italians showcased resilience, coming from behind in the second set after Swiatek and Kawa led 5-1. Errani and Paolini stormed back to win six consecutive games and take the match in straight sets, ensuring Italy's place in Wednesday's final.

Swiatek, visibly fatigued after a long day of competition, acknowledged the challenge of facing the relentless Italian duo. "It was a really long day... but then I found the way," said Errani, reflecting on their tough comeback.

The Billie Jean King Cup Final now awaits, where Italy will face either Great Britain or Slovakia, who will compete in the second semi-final on Tuesday.
