LOS ANGELES, Nov 20 (V7N) Jayson Tatum's stellar performance propelled the Boston Celtics to a thrilling 120-117 win over the previously unbeaten Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Cup on Tuesday.

Tatum delivered an all-around masterclass with 33 points, 12 rebounds, and seven assists, as the reigning NBA champions handed Cleveland their first loss of the season after a 15-0 start. His six three-pointers were part of Boston's barrage of 22 from beyond the arc, a critical factor in the win.

"NBA is a bunch of talented teams -- guys are gonna make plays, they're gonna make shots," Tatum said. "How you respond shows your growth and how special your team is."

Cleveland’s Resilient Fightback

The Celtics started strong, opening with five early three-pointers to build an 18-8 lead. By halftime, Boston held a commanding 65-48 advantage, thanks to Tatum’s last-second three-pointer.

However, Cleveland refused to back down, rallying in the third quarter to close within two points at 88-86. Donovan Mitchell, who finished with a game-high 35 points, and Evan Mobley, with 22 points and 11 rebounds, spearheaded the Cavaliers' comeback.

Boston’s Championship Poise

Despite Cleveland’s late-game surge, Boston's experience shone through. Tatum nailed a crucial three-pointer late in the third quarter to give the Celtics breathing room, and a composed final period saw Boston maintain their lead.

"We’ve played a lot of basketball, we’ve played in the biggest games," Tatum said, emphasizing Boston's championship pedigree.

Celtics’ Depth Delivers

Six Celtics players finished in double figures, highlighting the team’s depth. Boston’s sharp shooting and defensive composure ultimately proved decisive as they pulled away in the final minutes.

Standings Impact

The win solidifies Boston’s reputation as Eastern Conference contenders while ending Cleveland’s perfect start. "They came in 15-0 feeling like they were the best team; we felt like we were the best team," Tatum said. "It’s all competition."
