Adelaide, Dec 03 (V7N)– Australian opener Nathan McSweeney is set to showcase his potential as the second Test against India kicks off under the lights at Adelaide Oval on Friday. Following a difficult debut in Perth, where he scored 10 and a duck, the 25-year-old is optimistic about turning things around on home soil.

“I got two pretty good balls in Perth, so I’m not dwelling on it,” McSweeney said. “Adelaide is my home ground. I’ve played a lot of cricket here, and I’m looking forward to performing in front of a familiar crowd on a wicket I know well.”

McSweeney’s Sheffield Shield form earned him the nod to open alongside Usman Khawaja, despite his inexperience at the top. Two of his six first-class centuries have come at the Adelaide Oval, where he averages over 43, providing a solid base for confidence heading into the pink-ball Test.

While comfortable at the venue, McSweeney admitted the pink ball presents new challenges. “It’s a little bit new to me,” he said, but training under lights this week has been part of his preparation. “The key is to adjust and stay focused.”

Australia’s heavy 295-run defeat in the first Test showcased India’s bowling strength, led by Jasprit Bumrah. McSweeney sees the short turnaround as an advantage.

“The beauty of this series is you don’t have to wait long for another opportunity,” McSweeney noted. “I’ve taken lessons from Perth, and I’m ready to execute better in Adelaide.”
