SYDNEY, Dec 20, (V7N )– Australia's domestic One-Day Cup has been renamed the Dean Jones Trophy to honour one of the pioneers of the 50-over format, Cricket Australia announced Friday.

Dean Jones, who passed away in 2020 at the age of 59, was a legendary figure in Australian cricket and a transformative player in ODI cricket. Over 164 matches, he scored 6,068 runs, revolutionising the game with his aggressive and innovative approach.

Cricket Australia chief Nick Hockley praised Jones, saying, “He was a World Cup winner, an innovator, and possessed one of the best records in 50-over cricket for the era that he played. We are delighted to acknowledge his legacy in perpetuity by naming our premier one-day domestic competition in his honour.”

In addition, Cricket Australia announced that the Player of the Tournament Final will be awarded the Michael Bevan Medal, recognising another of the world’s greatest one-day cricketers.

The renaming of the trophy is a tribute to Jones' lasting impact on Australian and global cricket.
