Sunrisers Hyderabad announced on Monday that Australia's Pat Cummins will lead the team as captain for the 2024 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Cummins, who has previously represented Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals, makes a comeback to the IPL after skipping the 2023 season to manage his international commitments.

Having been acquired by Hyderabad in the player auction for $2.46 million in December, Cummins briefly held the record for the most expensive player in IPL history until being surpassed by fellow Australian Mitchell Starc.

The 30-year-old replaces South Africa's Aiden Markram as captain of the team.

After finishing at the bottom of the standings in the 2023 season, Hyderabad will kick off their new campaign against Kolkata on March 23.
