Dhaka, Nov 19 (V7N) – The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has appointed its only female director, Rubaba Dowla, as the new head of the women’s cricket division amid heightened debate surrounding the state of women’s cricket in the country. The decision was announced on Tuesday through a press release detailing the restructuring of the board’s permanent committees.
Following the BCB elections held on June 6 this year, the board distributed responsibilities across 23 permanent committees, though Rubaba Dowla had not yet joined as a director at that time. Earlier this month, on November 3, the National Sports Council officially nominated her as a director of the cricket board. She will now replace former national team spinner Abdur Razzak as the chair of the women’s wing.
Abdur Razzak, who previously led the women’s cricket division, has been reassigned as vice chairman of the same department. Additionally, he has been appointed as the new head of the High Performance (HP) Unit. Prior to this change, the HP Unit was led by former Bangladesh captain Khaled Mashud, who has now been appointed chairman of the Grounds Committee.
The BCB president, Aminul Islam Bulbul, had been overseeing the grounds department himself. Following the restructuring, he will continue to serve on the BPL Governing Council alongside fulfilling responsibilities on the board’s Working Committee.
The latest reshuffle is seen as an effort to stabilize and rebuild confidence in the administrative framework of women’s cricket, which has recently been under intense public scrutiny.
