Dhaka, Nov 19 (V7N) — A new chapter is set to be written in Bangladesh cricket today as Mushfiqur Rahim becomes the first Bangladeshi cricketer to play 100 Test matches, marking a historic milestone at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.
Bangladesh has completed 25 years in Test cricket, and over that time more than a hundred players have represented the nation in the longest format. But Mushfiqur now stands alone in reaching the century mark—an achievement no other Bangladeshi has attained.
On this special occasion, teammate and former captain Shakib Al Hasan paid an emotional tribute to Mushfiqur on social media.
“I remember your first Test match at Lord’s,” Shakib wrote. “I used to watch every ball from the BKSP recreation room. Since that day, you have inspired not only me, but countless Bangladeshi cricketers.”
Shakib added, “You have always given your best. Since your age-level cricket days, you were my captain—and as long as I play, you will remain my captain.”
Congratulating Mushfiqur on the landmark, Shakib said, “This is a huge achievement for any cricketer. Just as I watched your first Test match, I will watch every ball of your 100th Test as well. I hope you enjoy this match to the fullest.”
Mushfiqur Rahim, one of Bangladesh’s most consistent performers across formats, is widely regarded as a pillar of the country’s cricketing era. His 100th Test further solidifies his place among the greats of Bangladesh cricket.
