Mushtaq Ahmed, the former Pakistan leg-spinner and World Cup winner, has been appointed as the spin bowling coach for the Bangladesh cricket team. He will start his role ahead of the preparation camp for the T20 series against Zimbabwe later this month and will continue working with the team until the end of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and USA.
Mushtaq, aged 53, brings a wealth of coaching experience, having previously served as the spin bowling coach for England (2008-2014), West Indies (2018-2019), and most recently Pakistan (2020-2022). He also worked as the bowling consultant for the Pakistan team from 2014 to 2016.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the new role, Mushtaq stated, "It is a great honor for me to be a part of the Bangladesh cricket team as a spin bowling coach. I am looking forward to the role and want to pass on my experience to the players because they are very coachable. I believe they are one of the most dangerous teams around and can beat anyone with their capability, resources, and talent. I will strive to instill that belief in them and am very excited about this opportunity to work with the team."
Mushtaq's appointment is aimed at further enhancing Bangladesh's spin bowling prowess and overall performance in international cricket, particularly in the upcoming T20 tournaments. His extensive coaching background and insights are expected to be valuable assets for Bangladesh's cricketing ambitions.
