The future of Tamim Iqbal’s career with the Bangladesh national cricket team is currently uncertain as they gear up for their series against Zimbabwe.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has not provided clear information regarding Tamim’s status. His last game for the national side was in September last year, and since then, he has been sidelined due to injuries and personal decisions. His request to be omitted from the national contract list at the end of last year hinted at a possible retirement from international cricket.

Tamim and the BCB have yet to make any conclusive statements about his career. Jalal Yunus, the BCB’s cricket operations chairman, responded evasively when questioned about Tamim’s comeback, indicating that there had been no conversation on this matter with Tamim.

Jalal did note that he was responsible for discussing Tamim’s future but chose not to reveal any details from those discussions. He mentioned that Tamim is scheduled to meet with the BCB president to discuss his future, although the timing of this meeting is unknown. Tamim’s impressive performance in the recent Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), where he led Fortune Barishal to victory and emerged as the top run-scorer, has sparked rumors about his return, especially to the T20I format from which he previously retired.

Najmul Hossain Shanto, the national team captain, has expressed hope for Tamim’s return to the international arena, but the situation remains ambiguous.
