In a heartwarming farewell gesture, outgoing Borussia Dortmund veteran Marco Reus treated around 25,000 fans in the club’s iconic “Yellow Wall” to beers during his goodbye match on Saturday.

Reus, who will depart the club at the end of the season, bid an emotional farewell to the Westfalenstadion faithful by scoring a goal and providing an assist in a commanding 4-0 victory over Darmstadt. In a handwritten note displayed at the vendors in the south stand, the 34-year-old Dortmund native expressed his gratitude: “Thank you for everything. The goodbye beers are on me. Your Marco.”

Reus shared with Sky Sports his heartfelt thanks to the fans, saying, "I thanked the fans for standing by my side all this time." He explained that the idea had been planned for a long time and praised the club's marketing team for its execution.

A beer in the Westfalenstadion costs around five euros ($5.50), bringing the total cost of this generous gesture to approximately 125,000 euros, assuming each of the 25,000 fans had one beer—a rarity at German football games.

Reus, a product of Dortmund's youth academy, has had an illustrious career with the club, winning two German Cups but never clinching the Bundesliga title. He was part of the squad that played in the 2013 Champions League final, narrowly losing to Bayern Munich. Reus will have one last opportunity to win the most prestigious trophy in European football when Dortmund faces Real Madrid at Wembley in June.

This generous act and his consistent performance on the pitch have further solidified Reus’s status as a beloved figure in Borussia Dortmund’s storied history.
