In a thrilling encounter at the Sylhet International Stadium on Friday, the Sylhet Strikers secured their first victory of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2024 season, defeating Durdanto Dhaka by 15 runs. An outstanding performance from skipper Mohammad Mithun and Zimbabwean pacer Richard Ngarava characterized the match.

Opting to bat first, Sylhet faced early setbacks with the quick dismissals of Shamsur Rahman and Najmul Hossain Shanto. However, the team rallied to post a competitive total of 142/8 in their allotted 20 overs. Captain Mithun played a captain's knock, contributing a crucial 59 runs, well-supported by Samit Patel, Benny Howell, and Ariful Haque, who added a quick 21 runs off just nine balls.

Durdanto Dhaka, in pursuit of 143 for victory, encountered a formidable challenge. Saim Ayub and Saif Hassan tried to build up a long partnership. Still, the exceptional bowling display from Richard Ngarava dismantled the Dhaka batting lineup, securing a four-wicket haul for 30 runs.

In their quest for victory, Durdanto Dhaka fell short, managing only 127/9 in their 20 overs. Taskin Ahmed's late onslaught of 27 off 11 balls provided some entertainment but couldn't shift the momentum in Dhaka's favor.

This win marked a historic moment for Sylhet Strikers as they celebrated their maiden victory in the sixth match of the season. On the flip side, Durdanto Dhaka faced their fourth defeat in five games, highlighting the challenges they must overcome as the tournament progresses.
