State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology, Zunaid Ahmed Palak, unveiled Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited (BTCL)'s groundbreaking high-speed broadband internet service, 'GBon,' ushering the nation into a new era of connectivity. The inauguration took place at the Narayanganj Telephone Exchange Building on Friday, marking a significant milestone in Bangladesh's ICT landscape.
In his address at the launch event, Minister Palak hailed the introduction of 'GBon' as a landmark achievement that propels Bangladesh into the forefront of high-speed broadband services. Emphasizing the importance of innovative technology in driving progress, he expressed confidence that the passive optical network infrastructure of 'GBon' would play a pivotal role in enhancing BTCL's capabilities and ensuring its future profitability.
Minister Palak underscored the visionary leadership of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in laying the foundations for Digital Bangladesh. He credited the transformative initiatives spearheaded by Bangabandhu's grandson, Sajeeb Wazed Joy, and the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for Bangladesh's emergence as a global role model for development.
The launch of 'GBon' comes as a testament to the government's commitment to providing affordable and accessible internet services to all citizens. In line with this commitment, Minister Palak announced a special cost-effective package for BTCL's internet bandwidth in memory of the language martyrs, commemorating the historic significance of February 21.
Under this initiative, subscribers can avail themselves of 10 Mbps internet bandwidth at the affordable rate of Tk 500, with the existing 5 Mbps package reduced to Tk 399. This strategic pricing adjustment aims to democratize access to high-speed internet and empower individuals and businesses across the country with enhanced connectivity.
The introduction of 'GBon' represents a significant leap forward in Bangladesh's journey towards a digitally inclusive society. As the nation embraces the latest advancements in broadband technology, it reinforces Bangladesh's position as a leader in the global ICT arena. With 'GBon,' the possibilities for innovation, collaboration, and socioeconomic progress are boundless, ushering in a brighter future for all.
