Dhaka, Oct 20 (V7N) – In the past 24 hours, six more individuals have succumbed to dengue fever, and 1,298 new patients have been hospitalized with the mosquito-borne illness throughout Bangladesh.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 477 of the new dengue cases were reported in Dhaka alone by Sunday morning. The breakdown of hospitalizations across the country includes 273 in the Dhaka Division, 38 in Mymensingh, 196 in Chattogram, 146 in Khulna, 42 in Rajshahi, 36 in Rangpur, 83 in Barishal, and seven in Sylhet.

With these recent figures, the total number of dengue hospitalizations for the year has now reached 49,880, with 247 fatalities reported thus far. Currently, 3,943 patients are receiving treatment for dengue in hospitals nationwide, including 1,828 in the capital and 2,115 in other regions.

The DGHS has maintained records of dengue-related hospitalizations and deaths since 2000. This year has seen a record high of 321,179 dengue cases, along with the highest number of fatalities, totaling 1,705.
