Dhaka, Nov 30 (V7N) – November has recorded the highest dengue-related deaths of the year, with 173 fatalities, surpassing October's toll of 135, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

In a press release issued Saturday, DGHS reported that three people succumbed to dengue while undergoing treatment in hospitals within the Dhaka South City Corporation area as of 8 a.m.

Over the past 24 hours, 675 new dengue patients were hospitalized. Among them, Dhaka North City Corporation reported the highest admissions at 157, followed by Dhaka South City Corporation with 155.

Admissions from other regions include 98 from Barisal Division, 75 from Dhaka Division (excluding Dhaka's two city corporations), 72 from Chittagong Division, 66 from Khulna Division, 27 from Rajshahi Division, 18 from Mymensingh Division, and seven from Rangpur Division.

To date, 91,469 dengue patients have been hospitalized this year, with 30,879 admissions recorded in October and 29,652 in November so far.

Last year, Bangladesh experienced its worst dengue outbreak, with 321,179 cases and 1,705 deaths.

This year’s death toll has climbed to 488, comprising 251 women and 237 men.

Health Department data reveals that Dhaka North City Corporation has recorded the highest number of dengue cases this year, with 19,419 hospitalizations. This is followed by 16,649 admissions in Dhaka Division (excluding Dhaka’s two city corporations) and 16,144 in Dhaka South City Corporation.

The Dhaka South City Corporation area also reported the highest number of dengue fatalities this year, with 208 deaths, followed by 89 in Dhaka North City Corporation.
