Tangail, Feb 22, (V7N) – Nearly 3,500 people from Tangail and surrounding areas received free medical care in observance of International Mother Language Day and Shaheed Day.

The medical camp was organized on Friday, February 21, at the Talim Ghor premises in Hatibandha Union, Sakhipur Upazila, by the Kidney Awareness Monitoring and Prevention Society (Camps).

A discussion on kidney diseases was also held during the event, where Professor Dr. MA Samad, President of Camps and a renowned kidney specialist, presented the keynote address.

He highlighted the growing prevalence of kidney diseases, noting that the rate of kidney-related issues in Bangladesh is higher than in developed countries. "Approximately 38 million people in Bangladesh suffer from kidney disease, and the cost of treatment for kidney failure is so high that only 10% of people in a developing country like ours can afford it," Dr. Samad said. He also stressed that kidney failure could be prevented in 60-70% of cases if people maintain health awareness and healthy lifestyles.

Dr. Samad emphasized eight golden ways to prevent kidney disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, and cancer. These include regular exercise, balanced and moderate diet, avoiding drugs and smoking, drinking sufficient water, controlling diabetes and high blood pressure, regular check-ups for those at risk of kidney disease, and screening children for congenital kidney problems.

Among the distinguished attendees were Shoukhat Ali Khan, Managing Director and CEO of Sonali Bank, Dr. Mohammad Altaf-ul-Alam, Additional Secretary (News) at the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, former Additional Secretary Khondkar Mostan Hossain, poet and writer Mizan Rokeya Islam, renowned writer and researcher Shah Sanahul Haque, and Sakhipur Upazila Executive Officer Mohammad Abdullah Al Roni.

Other notable attendees included Rezwan Saleheen, Executive Director of Camps, Dr. Binoy Barman, researcher and poet at Daffodil International University, Mohammad Amin Sharif, Deputy Secretary at the Ministry of Finance, and many more from various institutions and organizations.

Also present were Sirajul Islam, CEO of the Human Development Center (Prashika), Nur Kamrun Nahar, DGM of DPDC, and others.
