Florida, Oct 27, (V7N) - A Florida woman has been convicted of second-degree murder after her boyfriend suffocated inside a suitcase during what she claimed was a game of hide-and-seek.

Sarah Boone, 47, from Winter Park, was found guilty following the tragic incident that occurred on February 23, 2020. Boone told police that after a night of drinking, her boyfriend, Jorge Torres Jr., climbed into the suitcase voluntarily, and they were joking when she zipped it up.

Boone stated that after an argument, she went to bed, believing Torres could escape on his own. When she woke up the next morning, she discovered he had died inside the suitcase.

Prosecutors argued that Boone knew Torres was unable to free himself and that her actions directly contributed to his death. During the trial, Boone remarked, "I zipped him up. We thought it was funny and were joking about how he was small enough to fit inside the suitcase."

The court was shown a video Boone filmed during the incident, where Torres can be heard gasping for breath. Boone can be heard laughing in response to his pleas, saying, "That's what you do when you choke me."

Boone also testified that during the argument, she feared for her safety when Torres threatened her, leading her to strike his hand with a baseball bat to prevent him from escaping.

The autopsy revealed bruises and contusions on Torres’ body, raising questions about the circumstances surrounding his death.

Boone insisted she never intended to harm Torres and did not believe he could die in the suitcase. She now faces a potential life sentence, with sentencing scheduled for early December.

This case serves as a tragic reminder of how quickly a seemingly playful situation can escalate into a devastating outcome.
