Washington DC, July 11 (V7N) – The second day of the three-day tariff-trade agreement meeting between senior officials of Bangladesh and the United States concluded in Washington DC on Thursday, with both sides making progress but leaving some key issues unresolved.

The update was shared by the press wing of the Chief Advisor on Friday (July 11), confirming that the third and final round of discussions will begin at 9 a.m. Washington time on Friday.

On the second day, Bangladesh’s Trade Advisor Sheikh Bashir Uddin held a private bilateral meeting with Ambassador Jameson Greer, the US Trade Representative and a minister-level official in the Trump administration. The meeting took place in a cordial atmosphere and touched on tariff-related concerns and broader bilateral trade interests.

During the discussion, Trade Advisor Bashir Uddin emphasized Bangladesh's readiness to expand imports alongside exports to the US. He underscored Bangladesh’s commitment to fair trade practices, urging for a level playing field and competitive tariff structure. Ambassador Greer responded positively, assuring comprehensive cooperation going forward.

Commerce Advisor Sheikh Bashir Uddin led the talks on behalf of Bangladesh, while National Security Advisor Khalilur Rahman joined virtually from Dhaka. Also present were Commerce Secretary Mahbubur Rahman, Additional Secretary Dr. Nazneen Kawsar Chowdhury, along with other high-ranking officials and subject-matter experts.

The ongoing discussions come as the US plans to implement a 35% tariff on Bangladeshi goods from August 1, a move that Bangladesh hopes to negotiate before the deadline through this diplomatic engagement.
