Rescue crews are still looking for survivors after a paint factory in the capital of India caught fire on Friday, killing eleven people, according to an official statement.

Atul Garg, head of fire services, said that the fire started late on Thursday night in the northern suburbs of New Delhi.

"The paint plant experienced a blast that caused the structure to fall. The victims were manufacturing workers, according to Garg.

"The impact was such that the fire spread to a house and a drug rehabilitation center nearby."

According to Garg, the source of the explosion has not yet been identified and the fire has already been contained.

India has a high rate of factory accidents, largely due to proprietors who frequently operate without permits and disregard fundamental safety regulations.

at 2019, a fire at a Delhi factory that produced shoes and school bags claimed the lives of around 40 persons.

Many of the deceased were, as is frequently the case, low-wage migrant laborers who slept at the plant in exchange for little pay.

A school in the northern state of Haryana saw one of the worst fires in India's history in 1985, leaving 442 people dead—258 of them children.
