Tehran, Apr 02 (V7N) – Ali Larijani, a senior advisor to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, warned that if the United States makes a miscalculation, Iran could be pushed towards developing nuclear weapons under public pressure.
Speaking on an Iranian TV news talk show on Monday night, Larijani addressed ongoing tensions with the US and Iran’s nuclear program. He emphasized that any military action against Iran would have severe consequences.
"The leader of the Islamic Revolution’s fatwa states that nuclear weapons should not be pursued. However, if the United States or Israel bomb Iran under the pretext of nuclear weapons, Iran will have no choice but to move toward nuclear armament," Larijani stated.
Larijani, a member of Iran’s policy-making council, asserted that Iran’s nuclear infrastructure cannot be eliminated through airstrikes. He claimed that the country’s nuclear technology has been developed in such a way that even if attacked, it would not suffer a noticeable delay in progress.
Regarding former US President Donald Trump’s recent remarks on Iran, Larijani dismissed them as mere rhetoric, stating,
"Most politicians view Trump's statements as just talk. He drew lines for Russia and Canada, yet nothing significant happened."
Larijani also criticized the United States for violating the 2015 nuclear agreement, accusing Washington of breaking its commitments while Iran upheld its obligations. He noted that Khamenei never considered the deal beneficial, as a single US president was able to unilaterally withdraw and undermine the agreement.
Turning to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Larijani alleged that Israel is incapable of operating in the region without American support. He further claimed that Israel is using ceasefire discussions as a political tool and insisted that no country truly trusts Israel's promises.
"The only way to end Israeli aggression is through resistance," he added.
Larijani also condemned recent US attacks on Yemen, arguing that Washington has once again miscalculated its military actions in the Middle East.
"If the US had any sense, they would not have engaged in war with Yemen," he concluded.
With tensions between Iran and the US at a high point, Larijani’s comments underscore Tehran’s stance that any foreign aggression will be met with strong retaliation.
