Abu Dhabi, Jun 04 (V7N) – In a significant humanitarian gesture ahead of the holy occasion of Eid al-Adha, the rulers of various emirates in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have granted amnesty to a total of 2,910 prisoners. The move is aimed at promoting a culture of mercy, forgiveness, and social reintegration.

The decision was announced by the Emirates Media Office through an official Instagram post on Tuesday (June 3).

According to the statement, the pardon has been granted to inmates who were imprisoned for a range of offenses but have demonstrated good conduct and rehabilitation during their time in custody.

Breakdown of Pardoned Prisoners by Emirate:

  • Abu Dhabi: President and Ruler His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan ordered the release of 963 prisoners. He also pledged to pay the financial dues associated with their release, reinforcing the humanitarian nature of the initiative.

  • Dubai: Ruler His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, also the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, ordered the release of 985 prisoners of various nationalities. Dubai Public Prosecution, in coordination with Dubai Police, has already begun legal procedures to implement the directive.

  • Sharjah: Ruler Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi granted amnesty to 439 prisoners. Major General Abdullah Mubarak bin Amer, Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police, expressed gratitude for the ruler’s compassionate initiative, noting its role in promoting family unity.

  • Fujairah: Ruler Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi ordered the release of 112 prisoners. Fujairah Police Chief Major General Mohammed Ahmed bin Ghanim Al Kaabi welcomed the gesture as a step toward social reintegration and personal reform.

  • Ras Al Khaimah: Ruler Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, also a Member of the UAE Supreme Council, announced the release of 411 prisoners. The decision applies to individuals who have shown genuine behavioral improvement.

Authorities across the Emirates expressed hope that this act of compassion will enable the freed individuals to rebuild their lives, strengthen family bonds, and make positive contributions to society.

The initiative reflects the UAE leadership’s enduring commitment to humanitarian values, social harmony, and the rehabilitation of prisoners.
