Washington, June 22 (V7N) – U.S. President Donald Trump has claimed that the United States has successfully destroyed Iran’s underground nuclear facility at Fordow. The statement was made Sunday morning via a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, where he also confirmed that U.S. forces had carried out coordinated strikes on three key Iranian nuclear sites.
According to Trump, the Fordow nuclear site—long known for its fortified, subterranean design intended to withstand military attacks—was “completely taken out” in what he described as a “decisive and necessary mission.” The other two targeted locations were Natanz and Isfahan, both central to Iran's uranium enrichment and nuclear development programs.
Trump wrote:
“The United States has struck and destroyed three Iranian nuclear sites, including the deeply buried Fordow facility. Our message is clear: the world cannot allow the world’s top sponsor of terror to possess nuclear weapons.”
The Fordow facility, located near the city of Qom, is one of Iran's most secure and strategically significant nuclear sites. It is situated beneath a mountain and was previously thought to be highly resistant to conventional aerial bombardment. Its destruction, if confirmed, would represent a major setback for Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
The U.S. Department of Defense has not yet issued an official statement confirming the scale or impact of the strike, and Iranian authorities have not publicly acknowledged any such loss. However, unverified reports from regional media suggest damage to infrastructure and possible casualties, although these claims remain under investigation.
Military analysts note that if Fordow has indeed been rendered inoperative, it would mark one of the most significant actions against Iran’s nuclear program in over a decade. The attack also raises concerns about potential retaliation from Tehran, as well as the broader risk of escalating conflict in the Middle East.
The international community has responded with alarm, urging both sides to exercise restraint and resume diplomatic dialogue to prevent further destabilization of the region.
