Kathmandu, Sep 09 (V7N) – Nepalese Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has resigned following widespread anti-government protests that left 19 people dead and more than 100 injured. The protests, led largely by the country’s Gen Z youth, erupted over demands to lift the social media ban and call for the Prime Minister’s resignation.
Protests have caused turmoil across Kathmandu and other cities, with demonstrators clashing with security forces. Despite an indefinite curfew in some areas, protesters reportedly attacked the homes of several political leaders, including former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba.
The unrest began on Monday, September 8, when demonstrators rallied against restrictions on social media and expressed anger over perceived government failures. The violent clashes prompted national and international concern, ultimately leading to Oli’s resignation.
Nepal now faces a critical political transition as the government works to restore stability amid ongoing demands from youth activists and civil society.
