A suicide bomb attack outside the New Kabul Bank branch in Afghanistan's Kandahar province has resulted in the death of three individuals and left 12 others injured. The incident occurred on Thursday morning, according to Inamullah Samangani, Director of Information and Culture of Kandahar Province, as reported by the French news agency AFP.

Samangani provided preliminary details of the attack, stating that it took place at 8 am local time, targeting individuals waiting outside the bank branch. He confirmed that three fatalities and 12 injuries have been reported, with the injured receiving medical treatment at a local hospital. Additionally, Samangani assured the public that the security situation in the area is under control, urging residents not to panic.

While no group has claimed responsibility for the attack thus far, Taliban officials highlighted the recent surge in bomb attacks across Afghanistan since the commencement of the holy month of Ramadan on March 11. Despite a decrease in bombings and suicide attacks since the Taliban's assumption of power, various armed groups continue to pose threats within the country.

Kandahar, known as the epicenter of Taliban authority, holds significant importance in Afghanistan's political landscape, serving as the residence of Taliban leader Hibatullah Akhundzada. The Taliban's rise to power in August 2021, following the ousting of the US-backed government, has reshaped the country's security dynamics, with ongoing challenges in curbing extremist violence despite efforts to stabilize the region.
