Kabul, Oct 09 (V7N) – The Taliban-led government in Afghanistan has imposed restrictions on social media content across several major platforms, according to a BBC report citing sources from the country’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.
The restrictions come just a week after Afghanistan shut down internet and telecom services for two days, raising further concerns about freedom of expression under Taliban rule.
According to the BBC, filters have been applied to limit certain types of content on Facebook, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter). However, it remains unclear what specific types of posts are being restricted.
Several social media users in Kabul reported being unable to view videos on Facebook, while Instagram access has also been partially disrupted.
A source within the Taliban government confirmed that content controls were being implemented but did not elaborate on the criteria or scope of the restrictions.
As of Thursday, no official statement has been issued by the Taliban regarding the nature or duration of the ban.
