A passenger bus traveling from Puri to Kolkata met with a devastating accident, resulting in five fatalities and leaving at least 40 individuals injured. The tragic incident occurred when the bus lost control while ascending a flyover on National Highway-16 near Baravati in Jajpur district, Odisha.
According to reports from ANI, the bus, carrying 50 passengers, veered off the flyover and plummeted to the ground below. Among the victims were four men and one woman, who tragically lost their lives in the accident.
Upon receiving news of the incident, local authorities, including the police and fire brigade, swiftly responded to the scene. With the assistance of bystanders, rescue efforts were initiated immediately. The injured were promptly transported to Dharamshala Hospital in 10 ambulances.
Tragically, despite the efforts of medical personnel, five individuals succumbed to their injuries upon arrival at Dharamshala Hospital. The condition of several other injured passengers remains critical.
In light of the severity of the injuries sustained, 40 individuals were transferred to SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack for further medical treatment. Hospital sources have indicated that 30 of these patients are in serious condition.
Expressing condolences over the tragic accident, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik took to his social media platform, stating, "I am saddened by the news of the passenger bus accident in Barbati area of Jajpur district. May the departed souls rest in peace, and my condolences to their families. I also wish the injured a speedy recovery."
