Following news that Israel had struck Iran, European Commission leader Ursula von der Leyen urged for moderation on Friday in order to prevent further escalation in the Middle East.

During a visit to Finland, von der Leyen told reporters, "We have to do everything possible (so) that all sides restrain from the escalation in that region." He continued, saying, "It is absolutely necessary that the region stays stable and that all sides refrain from further action."
