Riyadh, (12 June 2024) – Saudi Arabia has issued a warning regarding the potential for extreme temperatures during this year's Hajj season, with authorities cautioning pilgrims about soaring temperatures that could reach up to 48 degrees Celsius. The advisory was reported by Arab News on Wednesday, June 12.

Muhammad Al-Abdul Ali, spokesperson for the Ministry of Health of Saudi Arabia, highlighted the significant challenge posed by the high temperatures expected during the upcoming Hajj season. Al-Abdul Ali emphasized the importance of adhering to hygiene guidelines outlined by the ministry to safeguard pilgrims from the sweltering heat.

In light of the forecasted heatwave, Al-Abdul Ali recommended several precautions for Hajj pilgrims, including the use of umbrellas to shield from direct sunlight, staying hydrated by consuming ample water, and minimizing outdoor activities unless necessary.

The Saudi Arabian Meteorological Office had previously forecasted temperatures ranging between 45 and 48 degrees Celsius in Makkah during the Hajj period, with the possibility of hot and intense heat accompanied by light rain.

As preparations for this year's Hajj ceremony are underway, scheduled to commence on Friday, June 14, Saudi authorities are taking proactive measures to ensure the well-being and safety of pilgrims amidst challenging weather conditions.
