Kryvyi Rih, June 12 2024 — A Russian missile attack on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's hometown of Kryvyi Rih has resulted in at least nine fatalities and left 29 others injured, according to reports from Al Jazeera. The incident occurred on Wednesday, June 12, targeting a residential building in the city.

Among the injured were five children, the Ukrainian Prosecutor General's Office confirmed. Additionally, four individuals were reported missing following the attack.

Emergency response teams, including police and volunteers, are actively searching through the rubble for survivors. Search dogs have been deployed to assist in the efforts. Firefighters were also seen working to extinguish the blaze that erupted as a result of the missile strike.

President Zelensky condemned the attack, emphasizing the need for Ukraine and its allies to bolster their air defense systems. "Russia's daily and hourly terrorist activities prove that Ukraine (along with its partners) should strengthen its air defenses," Zelensky stated.

Despite the severity of the attack, the Russian Defense Ministry has yet to issue a public statement regarding the incident in Kryvyi Rih.

The Kyiv Independent reported that the search and rescue operations are ongoing, with authorities and volunteers working tirelessly to locate and assist any remaining survivors.
