Moscow, July 27 — Former Russian Deputy Defense Minister Dmitry Bulgakov has been arrested on corruption charges, according to an announcement by Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) on Friday.

Bulgakov, 69, who once held the position of seventh-ranking official in the Ministry of Defense, was apprehended as part of an anti-corruption operation that began in April. This development comes amid ongoing accusations of military corruption during the Ukraine conflict. The Moscow Times reported the details of his arrest.

The Investigative Committee confirmed Bulgakov's detention, which is part of a broader investigation into corruption within the defense ministry. He is currently held at Moscow's Lefortovo pre-trial detention center, a notorious facility known for housing high-profile detainees. The FSB has not yet specified the exact charges against him.

Bulgakov served as Deputy Defense Minister for Administration from 2008 until his transfer in September 2022. He previously oversaw military supplies and had significant influence on military logistics planning, especially following the outbreak of the Ukraine war in February 2022. However, his role came to an abrupt end following a military and defense ministry reshuffle ordered by President Vladimir Putin.
