NY, Aug 18 (V7N) - Across nearly eight decades, over 2,000 nuclear tests have been conducted at more than 60 sites worldwide, leaving a devastating legacy.

These tests have rendered lands uninhabitable and caused long-term health issues for countless people. However, recent calls to resume nuclear testing indicate that the tragic lessons of the past are being forgotten or ignored.

On this International Day Against Nuclear Tests, the global community must unite to put an end to this dangerous practice once and for all.

The Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) remains the only global prohibition on all nuclear testing, serving as a crucial, verifiable security measure. Yet, it has not yet come into force.

In honor of the victims of nuclear tests and for the sake of future generations, I urge all countries whose ratifications are necessary for the Treaty to become effective to do so immediately and without conditions.

Let us pass the test for humanity by banning nuclear testing permanently.
