American forces conducted a strike in Syria on Friday that resulted in the death of Abu Abdul Rahman al-Makki, a senior leader of the Al-Qaeda-affiliated militant group Hurras al-Din, according to the US Central Command (CENTCOM). Makki was a member of the group's Shura Council and played a key role in overseeing terrorist operations from within Syria.

Hurras al-Din, based in Syria, aligns with Al-Qaeda's broader objective of carrying out attacks against US and Western interests globally. The strike took place in the southern Idlib countryside, targeting Makki while he was on a motorcycle. Reports from the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights indicate that Makki was a Saudi national.

The United States maintains approximately 900 troops in Syria as part of the international coalition against the Islamic State (IS) group, which was formed in 2014. Although IS has lost the vast territory it once controlled, American forces continue to conduct operations in Syria targeting remaining IS militants and other jihadist groups that are considered threats to US and allied interests.
